The Mahindra Thar has just achieved the 50,000 bookings milestone. This is an especially commendable achievement considering the second-gen Thar has been on sale since October 2020.
There are four powertrain options on offer with the second-gen Thar – a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 132hp, 2.2-litre diesel, both of which get 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.

At launch, the Thar was also available with side-facing rear seats though that had been discontinued in December. However, buyers can still choose from hard top and convertible body styles, which are on offer with both, the AX Opt trim and the top-spec LX variant. The Thar comes with all the basic safety kit and has secured a four-star Global NCAP safety rating.
Mahindra is working on a five-door Thar that will have a longer wheelbase along with more interior space. The current three-door Thar is already far more upmarket and approachable than the first-gen model and the launch of a 5-door will only widen its appeal.
